A-10 DEMO TEAM FAREWELL
Serious consideration was made by the 355th and 23rd wing commanders, ACC/A3 and COMACC before deciding to retire the A-10 Demo Team. Ultimately, because of the ongoing divestment of A-10 aircraft in 2024, supporting A-10 demo creates a burden (aircraft availability, instructor pilots, MX, etc.) that could negatively impact the wing’s primary mission of training A-10 pilots and maintaining combat readiness. The decision was very difficult to make, and every commander was fully aware of the impact on the airshow industry and recruiting, but they concluded that supporting Air Force combat missions with the reduction in aircraft is the priority.
COMACC made the decision on or about 14 March
Those aircraft are privately owned and there are currently no plans for USAF to sell A-10s to private owners.
Major Lindsay M. “MAD” Johnson will return to supporting the A-10 training and combat missions as will her team members.
There are no plans at this time to create a new team, but the future may see an additional team (F-15, etc.) if it can be done in a manner that does not impact training and combat readiness.
